Rwanda is a small country located in East/Central Africa that borders the DRC, Uganda, Burundi, and Tanzania. It is located just a few degrees south of the equator, and is the size of the state of Maryland. Rwanda is a densely populated country with an estimated population of a little over 12 million people.
In Rwanda they speak Kinyarwanda, French, English, and Kiswahili. In 2008 the Government replaced French with English as the main language of education for primary school and upward, which caused controversy as most teachers are less conversant in English than French. Everyone speaks Kinyarwanda, the national language, so that is what I will be learning this fall. Here are some basics in Kinyarwanda:
